ELL Residence

Location: Beverly Hills, CA

Size: 5,400 SF

Year 2016

Status: built

Team: Axel Schmitzberger, Jessica Schmitzberger, Chris Lowe, Cooper,  Justin Tingue

This remodel and addition to a 1950s one-story residence for a developer unfolds as a modern reference to the work of R.M. Schindler and offers a fluid open floor plan over two stories. The streetfront is purposefully opaque, offering a hidden
entrance to an interior courtyard. The backside opens to a cantilevering swimming pool and is completely porous to the stunning canyon view. The project followed a tight timeline of six
weeks of development and submittal, with 14 months of construction, and required a careful finetuning between designer and contractor, allowing development of details on the fly.
